Frequently Asked Questions
As my first niche area that I started out in, working with weight loss plans for over 20 years, I have successfully helped literally thousands of individuals lose weight, and I know what works! I counsel the HARDEST of weight loss cases, those people that CANNOT lose weight no matter what they try, and I am proud to say that over 95% of them have been able to lose weight with my guidance.
I utilize an individualized approach based on your specific calorie/protein needs, your likes and dislikes, and your activity level and available time for exercise. Once we go through that, we fine tune the specifics of menu ideas that work for you. I don’t box people into rigid numbers of each food group type per day, and you won’t have to count calories (I do all the behind the scenes counting myself, leaving you simply with food options!) Together we will think up all the ideas that you can see working for you long term until you hit our determined realistic goal. I often incorporate specific restrictions in to a weight loss plan as needed based off of medical needs such as insulin resistance or high cholesterol.
At follow up sessions, we often tweak the menu and think of new ideas if you are getting bored or if existing options no longer realistically work for your lifestyle. I consider my approach more of a lifestyle change, and most clients who have worked with me for the long haul in weight management agree. My associates are also trained in my approach, and follow the same overall structure in design of weight loss plans, while each adding their own personalized twist.
I will never start a client on a weight management plan that they can’t see themselves enjoying long term until they hit their weight goal, or they are slated for failure. I don’t believe in an all or nothing approach to weight loss, and in fact, allowing small treats in a controlled mindful manner is something I believe is valuable to teach individuals that they really can do this for the long haul! No one would swear off all cake or cookies for the rest of their life – my approach therefore is to teach you how to have small amounts infrequently, healthier versions of treats, and to eat them mindfully. That being said, in the beginning when motivation levels are higher and you are satisfied without the need for treats, I am supportive of strictly following the regimen initially for maximum results. Once we move into the maintenance phase, we discuss liberalization of the diet 5% of the time, with overall compliance with a healthy eating approach 95% of the time for lifelong results.
I try to price my services at a fair amount to make it accessible to most individuals while still allowing me the time to invest in each case intensively to see results. Functional Medicine costs more than insurance-based/traditional services for a reason- it requires extensive provider knowledge and advanced training, time-investment in cases, ongoing provider education, and is not widely accessible.
While many Functional Medicine Doctors require you to come for numerous never-ending sessions, I try to help the majority of cases in 3-4 total sessions. While the cost of these average 3-4 sessions combined with supplements will run roughly $1500 total over the course of 4-6 months, in the big scheme of things, this is a no-brainer. While other functional practitioners take their patients down a rabbit-hole of numerous tests that run into the thousands, I have learned how to avoid that, with similar results. After working with SO many individuals for so many years, I have come to the conclusion that healing the body with a functional medicine perspective is a one-time investment for lifetime gain. There is absolutely no price tag on your health or on feeling good!
In addition, I have often noted that the money comes back to you in the form of fewer medical bills/medication expenses and fewer missed days of work. From the IBS or Crohn’s client that can now get to work on time and focus on activities, to the IVF client who requires fewer retrievals, the PCOS client that got pregnant without medical intervention, and the rheumatoid arthritis or Colitis case that reverses her disease and decreases medication, in the long run, all SAVED money.
